Angry with wife for her religious fervour, man sets her on fire, injures four

A 56-year-old man set his 50-year-old wife, albeit unintentionally, on fire during an argument over her excessive devotion.
The incident happened in Tamil Nadu’s Thiruverumbur neighbourhood of Trichy district. The man, Rajendra Prasad was extremely irritated with his wife Hema Bindu over her deep religiosity, as she spent hours in prayers and rituals neglecting her family.
Reportedly, on Wednesday night, Prasad began arguing with Bindu over her performing a prayer at 11 pm. Enraged with Bindu for performing a ‘puja’ at such a late hour, Prasad began arguing with her.
In the ensuing quarrel, Prasad allegedly poured petrol on her which was kept in a bottle for use in his two-wheeler.
The petrol caught fire from a nearby lamp’s flame. Both Prasad and Bindu were trapped in the blaze.
Their sons Gunasekar and Gurusamy, who tried to save them both, also suffered burn injuries.
All four were taken to hospital. The four were hospitalised in Trichy government hospital, where Prasad and Bindu were said to be in critical condition.
The Navalpattu police registered a case and opened an investigation into the matter.
